Turing Navigation - Project Set Up

The follow steps will enable you to navigate and build a project
Turing Training Topic What How More Information

Projects If you see the project but can not access that is because the user has not added you to their specific project This feature is to control other users from changing the settings. Best practice is to ask the user to add you to the project you are interested in, and with the Ellipsis (three DOTS ...) on the right of the project status duplicate the project so you can have the project under your name There are two ways to duplicate a project: duplicate as a draft or duplicate with existing settings. Duplicating as draft allows you to edit the boundaries and add new ingredients. Duplicating with existing settings is copying the model as is. Project Access
Project Status Draft Project in the process of being defined While building you can exit and it will save to Draft
In Progress User has asked the platform to build the Model Email will be sent to user when model is ready
Ready Ready the platform is ready for the user to use
Failed Project Failed to Build Review Error message, Try to Build again, if Fails contact Turing Support (By using Blue Chat Bubble at Bottom of Screen)

Project Type Exploration Project explorative to find unique solutions Select This Option
Preserve Label Set tolerances of existing product to optimize within a set product range (Stay in label)
Substitute Ingredient Swap a new ingredient for a current ingredient
Option A Build Project Via Data Set Library** May not apply CPG dependent Open Learning Institution (House) Top Right Corner
Select Data Set Library Drop Down Choice from Institution
Type in Product Name or Kroger Smart Number Select Product that Represents Product you wish to work on
Review Formulation Select and open to double check that is the correct formulation you wish to build your project
Select Red Create Project Button Top Right of Screen - Red Button
Name the Project You wish to work on Fill out information on the screen
    Select Build Project Build Project
Option B Formulation is not in Data Set Library (Build a Project via Data Template) Select Template to Download Template is a CSV file that will download to your computer, use template format to upload historical data Build a Project with Data
Test ID This can be any historical number or lab book or date from prior work, or can be numbered sequentially if no lab number represents
Template is a CSV with Ingredients and Outcomes oriented in a row format Ingredients use Ingredient Item Numbers if known, or Use ingredient Name.
Define Ingredients, Outcomes in Header Columns (DO NOT USE SPECIAL CHARACTERS) Outcomes are the desired outcomes you wish to measure for your project
Define each row as a "Benchmark", "competitor", or Past Formulation Benchmark is the formulation you wish to represent on the UI to compare
Once you have filled out - Save file as CSV Must be a CSV file or it will not upload
Click Button to Upload File Select File you saved for your project Upload
    Select Build Project Build Project

Option C Build Project - No Data Add ingredients Via the Ingredient Library in the Input and Outcome screen Bottom Red Button on INPUTS & OUTCOMES Build a project without any data
Type Information you wish to include in your project via + New Red Button at the Center of the screen + Add New Ingredient and New Outcomes Sequentially

Option D Build Project Via Luna Chat Luna Chat is an interactive Chat Feature that you can ask any question to help you build your project Luna Chat can be used to ask any questions about your product Build Project with Luna Claims Agent
Example "I want to make a reduced sugar Cola" Review the suggestions ask it to eliminate anything you do not wish to include
"What types of sweeteners should I use ?" Continue to use the chat if you need additional attributes
Once you have a chat in a place that represents the project you are envisioning you can build a project from this point Enables user to begin building project to get going

Inputs and Outcomes Defining your Project This screen defines the building of the Model

Define the Input and Outcomes Select Input Variable Type EXISTING INGREDIENT, SENSORY OUTCOME, ANALYTICAL OUTCOME, CONSUMER OUTCOME, PROCESSING CONDITION, or RECIPE (CPG Dependent** May not apply) Inputs & Outcomes
Note: Outcomes should reflect how you think about the food form and the changes you are going to make If you plan on adding Stevia to affect sweetness, you should have an outcome of "Taste Sweetness", and Taste Lingering or Chemical Taste. If you add Caffeine and you plan on changing the caffeine level you should include Bitterness The outcomes are important to reflect how you view and evaluate your product. If you think an analytical measurement can also be used to advise you on the amount of sodium or the brix of solution.

Linking the Ingredients Via the Ingredient Library Links to Ingredient Library via Looking Glass under Ingredient Name Populates Ingredient Price from Kroger Data, Also Includes Ingredient Description. If linked Ingredient Name with be in BLUE
If the ingredient is not found in the library Ingredient requires description and Costs. If user does not populate new ingredient to the Ingredient library, Ingredient will be shaded BLUE CELL LIKE THIS ONE

User can add Ingredient Via Ingredient Library Click on Ingredient Library Fill out information in Form, Anywhere there is a red dot by the descriptor user must fill in the information
See Ingredient Library Tab

Min|Max Observed Values These are the values Observed from Uploading via the Data Set Library or Via Data Template If only 1 row of data set the min and max values will be the same

Unit Defines the units the processing conditions, or analytical outcomes Examples: Temp (F or C), psi, cP, pH, Brix, TA, etc.
Descriptive Functional Role This has been pre-populated in some cases via PLM
If there is no Descriptive Roll, User must Provide Examples of ingredient Rolls : emulsifier, chocolate flavor, oil, hydrocolloid, starch etc.

Project Boundaries This is the functional range you can consider for the ingredient To maximize formulation optimization the wider the boundaries the better. The boundaries should represent the technical functional range
If you want the model to explore replacing an ingredient and adding a new ingredient set the lower boundary to 0. This allows the model to find a lower cost substitution assuming you have the replacement added in the project Set up If ingredient can be eliminated and replaced with another, set Min to 0.
If ingredient may help or improve something try to set the maximum to 10-20% above its current usage level. For example, a flavor that is used at 1% you may consider more flavor in some of your experiments where you are taking out other ingredients As a general rule of thumb, I like to set the maximum ranges to 10-20% of the current level unless there is a technical limitation such as regulatory or food safety
Ingredients that must be included for example acids or vitamins and minerals I will set those to vary minimal + or - 0.5% The model requires some variation in order to calculate, Ingredients that must be in at exact levels, I tend to vary by a small amount but still in the realm of the technical usage.

Outcome Priority This weighs the importance of your outcomes relative to your objective If you were working on a lower sugar beverage the outcome of Sensory Sweetness would be a high Priority. It would solve those outcome first
You can set all the outcomes to high but if you prefer. The model will solve for all with equal weighting

Cost Costs should be pre populated if ingredient is linked from data library
If the cost is 0 and this is incorrect, user should add cost Validate cost assumption from PLM, and enter cost information and units. DO NOT BUILD PROJECT WITHOUT ALL INGREDIENT COSTS DEFINED

Select Filler Ingredient Select Filler Ingredient Select the 1 Ingredient that will be your filler ingredient to make your project sum to 100 when building the project. This is mandatory and typically the lowest cost ingredient or the bulking portion of the formulation : water, flour etc..

Review Inputted information and confirm completed via Green Check Mark Review Information on INPUTS and OUTCOMES for Accuracy and Completeness. If you need to work on later you can SAVE and Leave in DRAFT. IF you are ready to can SELECT NEXT and BUILD YOUR PROJECT Review Information for Completeness if you are ready to proceed you can make certain the form is complete and confirm each line by selecting the Green Check Mark. If you Need to Delete and ingredient line select the X. The platform will not enable you to build project without a Filler ingredient, all the ingredients have a descriptive function, and the check marks are all closed by clicking on the check mark, and you have at minimum 1 outcome.
